Next to Lorcan, whom I love dearly, I think I have a new favorite man in my life... This is another Male Shi'Rah. He is so pretty! I am so darned proud of myself!

Your Character's information; (Orruh =Male)
Name: Harlequin or Quinn
Status: Unspoken for, Instrumentalist (lyre)
Height: 16 hh
Eyes: Human like, deep red
Fur/body: (Much like that of a harlequin duck with a few improvisions) The tip of his muzzle is light gray, then fades to deep blue almost black, black paws, deep blue shoulder, red/ orange/ brown large spot covering most of his side, surrounded at the top by a deep blue/ black dorsal stripe, and directly behind the large red spot is that lighter dark blue (forgive me, it’s sort of hard to explain in writing).
Hair: All of the colors of his body striped.
Wings: Tops: Deep blue/ black with two primary’s of the lighter blue, and the one next to it the rusty red/ orange color. Underside: almost the same as above minus the blue and rust markings. The blue fades into black then into gray towards the tips than white right at the tip.
Hooves: Cream colored
Markings: White and rust splotches (seriously, look at a google pic of a Harlequin Duck for the body) There are two ‘eyespots’ on the underside of his wing between the second and third joints. They are surrounded by black. On the tops of his wings there is a long white stripe surrounded by black as well. This stripe travels from the first wing joint to just below the third.
Personality: Quinn is sort of shy. He never speaks unless spoken to first or if the necessity brings it. Because of his unusual mane he has drawn the attention of many a King and Oreeh. He’s even drawn the attention of a few Orruh. To no avail. He loves wandering from kingdom to kingdom spreading his gift of music to each one. He is a closet romantic. Praying for the day that he will meet his ‘perfect’ mate and they can join wings and live ‘happily ever after’. As you can see, he’s quite the dreamer. His interesting tunes could stop a ‘Rah in it’s tracks.
Extra: Always has his lyre in a treated leather satchel around his neck.
Harlequin looks exquisite! I can see fur, loose skin, tight skin, muscle.... really well done. His face is fantastic! The eye and snout I especially like. Great design as well. You have exceptional skill with those pencils...
.... when you choose to! The background ... ugh... show the backgrounds some love too! That kind of light pencil shading doesn’t look at all nice to me when it’s done in different directions (like most is horizontal, some follows the curve of his tail, and I think I see some vertical bits).
What you have here is a really good drawing of a character, but you could be producing amazing pieces of work – if you showed the love to the whole piece instead of just the character (and I’d say on this one, the background actually detracts from the character drawing).
I hope I haven’t been rude, if you’re happy drawing the characters then that’s cool I’d just really like to see what happens if you put that level of skill and love into a piece based on a full scene... aren’t there any interesting surroundings you can imagine for him?

*giggles like a little girl on a sugar high* I know what you mean! While I was drawing him I was purring (literaly) to the picture. He's so darn beautiful. I love him almost as much as I do Lorcan!

I have a sense of humor... Where'd you leave yours?
The only reason why I even touched the background on this is because I smudged the crap outta it when i was coloring him in. I know, I need to work seriously on them. I hate them so....
I attempted (and failed) to cover up the directional marks by smudgeing the entire BG with a tissue.
Heh.... I could think of many different BGs that would suit Quinn well... However, I wouldn't want to start something and then half way through have it crap out on me. I know that the light pencil shading is a copout. I really should take more time in backgrounding my pieces it just scares the crap outta me that I'm going to mess it up somehow. Which is why I usually just leave it white. Perhaps in the future, I'll draw out a simple BG first and then place my char. so as to not make the same mistake again.
No need to worry that you're being rude... You arn't! I take constructive critisism with joy! If you have an opinion about something, BE HONEST WITH ME!!!! I prefer it actually.
I know that my BGs need alot of work and could improve my artwork dramatically. I will have to go back to this one in the future and see if I can't revise something to the BG (because it is light) and add some little details to it to draw it into the piece.

Ah, I’d forgotten about that one. The problem with that one is that the art nouveau style it’s done in is very dependant on structure and geometry, and the crooked and cut off photo makes it lose a lot of its impact. I’m sure it looks great on the wall though!

Yes I think you’re right, plan the background first, then you’re not worried about spoiling something
The line on this one is pretty awkward because my eyes are expecting to see more of it on the left side, but it’s at a bad height for that.
Again... beautifully drawn and coloured character.. the only thing I could mention about him is that his tail doesn’t look quite perfect – it starts (from his body end) thin, then gets a little thicker, then thinner, then thicker, before thinning again. I think maybe you could add a little bit of thickness to that thinner part of the middle section just to even it out a bit and give it a nicer curve.
